Image names:
We often see most of the web designers/web developers provide default or junk names to the images they use for the website for e.g. DC0098.jpg or img.jpg which is completely useless.Instead of these irrelevant names,make sure that your web designer is using appropriate name for every image.For a logo of ABC company, the image name could be ABC-logo.jpg, these conventions brings not only professionalism to your website,but also help website to be indexed and searched with appropriate keywords.

Image size:
This is again an important step towards image optimization.One must make sure that the images should be optimized for its size to avoid consumption of extra bandwidth of the server and to help getting them downloaded faster as well.There are lots of tools available which help to compress the size of images, for e.g. Photoshop.It helps to compress and optimize the images without compromising with their quality.

Alt tags for Images:
Since images are never read by search engines, it is always a wise idea to put alt over for them.You can provide alt tags to your website's images with their relevant names which will help not only understand the users but also enable search engines to index them.

Appropriate image types:
It is always recommended that websites should have web enabled web-safe images.For example you should use either .jpg or .gif image for your websites.They are easily downloaded and maintain the quality of resolution as well.
